It is designed to deliver the knowledge, confidence and necessary basic skills required to implement emergency first aid at work, until a more qualified person becomes available to take charge of the situation.

It gives learners the skills and confidence to respond to a range of accidents and first aid emergencies they could encounter in the workplace. Minimum number is 15 in a session.

Phase 1 - Introduction to – the first-aider

  3. Responsibilities of the first-aider
  4. Minimising the risk of infection
  5. Contents of a first aid box

Phase 2 - Assessing an Incident

  1. Scene survey
  2. Primary survey
  3. Casualty communication

Phase 3 - Manage Unresponsive Casualties

  1. Principles of resuscitation
  2. The respiratory system
  3. CPR
  4. Adult basic life support
  5. Compression only CPR

Phase 4

  1. Obstructed airway
  2. Choking
  3. Shock

Phase 5

  1. The circulatory system
  2. Types of bleeding
  3. Minor injuries: cuts, grazes, contusions, minor burns and scalds, foreign objects, small splinters.
